Maskterclass: Mask Making

$275 - 4 Class Series // August 20th, 27th, September 3rd, 10th
For four weeks, David Gordon and Jackson Bridgers will guide students through making striking, sculptural masks using accessible materials and household tools.
Week 1: Students are asked to arrive with a mask concept and inspiration visuals; Utilizing tin foil and/or armature wire, we will build the skeleton of our masks.
Week 2: Students will be shown how to properly cover the scaffolds they built with a structurally sound layer of paper mache.
Week 3: Students will be shown how to prepare and apply paper clay to their masks to build additional structures and features.
Week 4: We will cover sanding, painting and glossing the masks.
The workshop will culminate in a masquerade party for all + photo shoot in the LA river! To give students ample time to finish their masks, the masquerade party will take place two weeks after the final class session.
All levels welcome, all materials provided.
Workshop Policies:
Please arrive 5-10 minutes early for your workshop. Workshops start on time. If you are more that 15 minutes late for your class, you may forfeit your chance to take the class.
You may cancel for a refund up to 21 days before the workshop. After that, workshop fees are not refundable.
We reserve the right cancel or reschedule a workshop with fewer than 3 sign ups. If you cannot attend the rescheduled date, you will receive a refund.
Please note that we may take photos during the workshop to use on social media. If you do wish to be photographed, please let the teacher know when you arrive.
If you are sick, please stay home. Call or email to let us know that you are not coming. We can offer a 30% credit towards a future workshop. Our instructors are paid for every person enrolled in their class by the day of the class.
Last minute cancellations are extremely challenging for our guest teachers. Often times, materials have been meticulously prepared ahead of time. Keep in mind that late cancellations are a financial burden on these very special artists.
David Gordon and Jackson Bridgers are artists from Los Angeles who have been working with mask making for several years. They have previously hosted mask based craft nights and taught a mask making workshop at March April Studio. They have refined a simple method to make beautiful, versatile and durable masks using affordable materials and house hold tools.
