Forager is a craft studio and gathering place in Frogtown, Los Angeles. We host workshops, gather artists and materials we love, and create hands-on experiences for brands, companies, families, friends, and communities—at our studio and wherever else people happen to be gathering.
Our name comes from the way we like to work: looking closely at what is already around us, gathering what is useful, beautiful, overlooked, or worth learning from, and finding new ways to put those things together. Sometimes that means an old craft tradition, a natural or reclaimed material, a local artist, a technique passed down through generations, or an object that can be repaired, redyed, or made new again.
We believe that making by hand matters. It asks us to slow down, pay attention, work with real materials, and make something that did not exist before. In a digital world, craft gives us something physical to hold onto: useful skills, imperfect objects, time away from the screen, and a connection to the generations of people who made things before us.
At Forager, our tables are abundant by design: bowls, trays, baskets, and stacks filled with materials in different colors, textures, shapes, and finishes, all gathered together for you to explore. There is no prescribed outcome. Look closely, sift through the options, notice what keeps pulling your eye, and choose the pieces that feel right to you. Part of the experience is in the choosing—in foraging through a rich collection of materials and creating something that could only have come from you.
Around our tables, we often hear some version of, “I didn’t believe I could make that.” So many people come to us already convinced they aren’t creative, or that being an “artist” belongs to someone else. But creativity does not belong to a certain kind of person, and art should never feel exclusive or intimidating. You do not need a natural gift. You just need a place to begin.
And once you begin, something else happens around the table. People stay a little longer. They talk to someone new, trade materials, ask for help, offer it back, experiment, and make things side by side. The object matters, but so does the time spent making it. For us, craft has always been a way to gather.

Meet the Team
Victoria Steger
Founder & Creative Director
Victoria is the founder and creative director of Forager, where she leads custom experiences for brands, companies, families, and friends. For nearly a decade, she has specialized in developing thoughtful, hands-on experiences that bring together concept, materials, place, and people—from intimate gatherings to large-scale brand activations, both in person and virtually. She especially loves working closely with clients to dream up something that has never existed before, then figuring out how to make it beautiful, functional, and logistically possible. Her approach is grounded in sustainability, foraging, reuse, and a deep belief in the value of making things by hand. She is most interested in creating experiences that feel specific to their setting, generous in their materials, and meaningful enough to stay with people after the gathering is over.
Kay Chu McCarthy
Studio Manager
Kay is Forager’s Studio Manager, a multidisciplinary artist, and a driving force behind the studio’s community programming. Her work is rooted in accessibility, participation, and the idea that creative spaces should feel welcoming, useful, and connected to the communities around them. In addition to her work keeping the studio together, Kay helps to develop our public programs and gatherings centered on art, local issues, and shared making. Kay is the artist behind Forager’s Abolish ICE block print carvings, which are being proudly worn on shirts, totes, and bandanas across Los Angeles. With a practice spanning printmaking, collage, and California native plant design, Kay brings a distinctly social and place-based point of view to the studio.
Sadye Harvey
Workshop Director
Sadye is Forager’s Workshop Director, overseeing our public workshop programs and helping curate the classes, artists, and experiences that come through the studio. A gifted teacher and deeply experienced maker, she has a particular love for textiles, slow processes, and skills that are learned by doing—sewing, weaving, natural dye, leathercraft, basketry, and pretty much anything else she can set her mind to. Sadye has an instinct for what makes a class feel both substantial and approachable, and an unusual ability to make people feel capable without ever rushing the process. Her warmth, patience, and depth of knowledge set the tone for Forager’s workshops and for the kind of learning the studio hopes to make more room for.
