Ink Making Intensive

Sunday, October 19th 10am - 1pm

Learn how to make pigments from the plants that surround you. In this multi day class you will take a deep dive into the alchemy of plant pigments. The beauty of these naturally made liquid watercolors will astound you in their surprising combinations, build-ability and range of stunning natural colors. In this class there will be a mix of learning how to paint with these pigments and learning the science of making the colors. Participants will leave with their own 4 color ink kit including pre printed plant postcards, a palette and a total kit to go paint wherever they go.

All Materials Provided.

We will have a 1 hour lunch break on Saturday, October 18th. There are plenty of delicious options for lunch in the neighborhood, including Spoke, Just What I Kneaded, and Wax Paper.


Workshop Policies:

  • Please arrive 5-10 minutes early for your workshop. Workshops start on time. If you are more that 15 minutes late for your class, you may forfeit your chance to take the class.

  • You may cancel for a refund up to 21 days before the workshop. After that, workshop fees are not refundable.

  • We reserve the right cancel or reschedule a workshop with fewer than 3 sign ups. If you cannot attend the rescheduled date, you will receive a refund.

  • Please note that we may take photos during the workshop to use on social media. If you do wish to be photographed, please let the teacher know when you arrive.

  • If you are sick, please stay home. Call or email to let us know that you are not coming. You will receive a credit for a future class.

  • Last minute cancellations are extremely challenging for our guest teachers. Often times, materials have been meticulously prepared ahead of time. Keep in mind that late cancellations are a financial burden on these very special artists.

Janne Larsen is a Los Angeles-based multidisciplinary artist whose work bridges sustainability, community, and creativity. Drawing from her upbringing on a farm in Idaho, she creates botanical inks from locally foraged plants and crafts natural wines that reflect the terroir of Los Angeles. Her artistic practice explores the relationship between people and the natural world, emphasizing sustainable material use and regional identity. In addition to her own work, she teaches workshops on botanical ink-making, guiding others in engaging with their environment through art. Through her practice, Larsen fosters a deeper appreciation for nature, storytelling, and ecological stewardship.
